This says the euthanasia rate at animal shelters is much, much higher on average.

Hi Jon: To clarify, the FAAS folks said their euthanasia rates are similar to thoae of other shelters like theirs, which accept all of the animals that are brought to them.

Great going FAAS! These guys are doing great work the stats show that. About euthanasia, unfortunately it's complexly unrealistic to save every animal brought into the shelter. Some are very sick and near death, others have been mistreated all their lives and are very difficult to rehabilitate. Even animal rights groups like PETA realize this sad reality, and understand that sometimes euthanasia sadly is the best option for the well being of all the animals:
